Hitachi S-4000

Scanning Electron Microscope

Low Voltage, High Resolution, EDX, Spectra, Maps

The Hitachi S-4000 is a high resolution field emission scanning electro microscope (SEM) capable of low voltage imaging of biological materials with a resolution of 5 nanometers at 5kV. The S-4000 is equipped with an energy dispersive x-ray microanalysis system (EDX) capable of identifying light elements including carbon. The system does digital x-ray mapping as well.

Zeiss 902 CEM

Transmission Electron Microscope

Conventional, sections, particulate, Thick, ESI

The Zeiss 902 CEM is a high resolution transmission electron microscope (TEM) equipped with an integral energy filter. This technology allows this instrument to be used in 3 distinct ways. 1) Standard TEM imaging, with inelastically scattered electrons removed 2) Imaging of thick sectioned material, up to .75 microns in thickness 3) Electron spectroscopic imaging (ESI) of elemental composition of specimen. The microscope is equipped with a goniometry stage, allowing stereo imaging and multiple image movies.
